‘Destiny’ rolls by author

World Brief

Novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford has failed in her attempt to block India’s Sahara TV from airing “Karishma — The Miracle of Destiny,” which she claims is based on her bestseller “A Woman of Substance.”

The channel screened the $6.2 million miniseries, toplining Bollywood star Karishma Kapoor in her small-screen debut, on Monday after two judges lifted Thursday’s Calcutta high court ruling blocking India’s costliest TV production.

The serial was produced by Mumbai-based Akashdeep for Subrata Roy-backed Sahara TV and penned by noted Hindi-lingo scribe Sachin Bhowmick.

Akashdeep claims “Karishma” is only inspired by the New York-based Taylor Bradford’s novel.
