PRAGUE — Czech TV announced Thursday its sixth tender for a director in five years. An interim director has managed the beleaguered pubcaster since November, when the CTV board ousted Jiri Balvin in a no confidence vote.
Since the board’s controversial decision not to reappoint internationally respected veteran Ivo Mathe five years ago, CTV has been under criticism from all sides for its selection of directors.
None has been able to survive the entire six-year term, the longest lasting only two years. Two years ago, CTV employees led a strike that was supported nationwide, protesting one director who was seen as an obvious political appointment. The last tender ended in a deadlock in April and resignations from the board.
A new director is expected be appointed by the end of July.
