CBS takes Monday

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

CBS won the third Monday of the May sweep in key demos, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, paced by a strong delivery for rookie drama “CSI: Miami.” The Eye led the night in both adults 18-49 and 25-54 in addition to an easy victory in total viewers.

“CSI: Miami” (6.6/17 in adults 18-49, 17.4 million viewers overall), in a rare week without any drama series competition, posted its best numbers since March and was the evening’s top-rated program in adults 18-49. The Eye was also on top from 9 to 10 with “Everybody Loves Raymond” (5.7/15 in adults 18-49, 18.4 million viewers overall) and “Still Standing” (5.0/12 in adults 18-49, 15.7 million viewers overall).

NBC placed second on the night in most key categories and first in adults 18-34, although the championship episode of “Fear Factor” (4.9/14 in adults 18-49, 11.1 million viewers overall) was surprisingly soft despite winning its hour in demos. From 9 to 11, net’s “Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three’s Company” (4.5/11 in adults 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) did pretty well, figuring to rank as the season’s No. 4 telepic in 18-49.

At Fox, a guest appearance by Whitney Houston couldn’t boost the season finale of “Boston Public” (3.4/10 in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall), which remained third for the hour. “Mr. Personality” (3.2/8 in adults 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall) ran a distant third at 9.

ABC didn’t do much with its original movie, “Diary of Ellen Rimbauer” (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall), leaving the net fourth for the night.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 5.2/14; NBC, 4.6/12; Fox, 3.3/9; ABC, 2.6/7.

In total viewers: CBS led with 15.4 million.
