CBC takes its share of nods from Geminis

Ceremonies will be held October in Toronto

TORONTO — Pubcaster CBC gets top billing in the documentary, news and sports nominees list for the Gemini Awards, announced Tuesday.

“CBC News: The National” took seven nods, including for newscast, three for reportage (Paul Workman, Neil MacDonald, Don Murray) and anchor (Peter Mansbridge).

Mansbridge is up against fellow CBC anchor Ian Hanomansing and Global’s Kevin Newman, who is also nommed in the best newscast category.

“CBC News: Disclosure” took a handful of nominations, including direction, writing and editing for a news magazine series.

In all, nominees were announced for 28 awards.

Up for documentary are, “A Question of Honor” (Stornoway), “Rough Cuts” (CBC), “The Passionate Eye Canadian Showcase” (CBC), “The Undefended Border” (White Pine Pictures) and “The View From Here” (TVOntario.)

The Geminis are awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Nominees in the industry and gala categories will be announced Sept. 9, and awards ceremonies will be held in Toronto on Oct. 18, 19 and 20.
