Back by popular demand, ABC News’ evening newscast is reviving the “Person of the Week” segment.
Weekly feature, shelved in 1998, makes its return on Friday’s edition of “World News Tonight With Peter Jennings.”
Jennings informed the staff of the decision in an email.
“The headline here is that we are going to bring back ‘Person of the Week,’ ” Jennings wrote. “We did it for many years — and for much of that time it was one of the most anticipated segments on the broadcast. In the years that we have done without it, a surprising number of people have said that they miss it.”
Decision was made by several news execs, led by Jennings and new “World” exec producer Jon Banner.
Segment, which runs about 3½ minutes, features people from all walks of life who made an impact, not always positive.
“Person of the Week” first began airing in 1986.
