FX has ordered 13 episodes of the original drama “Nip/Tuck,” starring Julian McMahon, Dylan Walsh, Joely Richardson and John Hensley.
Miami-set series, which explores the plastic surgery biz, will be the cable network’s second original hourlong drama series when it preems this summer. FX is also home to “The Shield.”
Production is skedded to roll imminently in Los Angeles and Miami. Pilot was shot in San Diego and Miami.
“This show is about each and every way people transform their lives,” creator-exec producer Ryan Murphy, who wrote and directed the pilot, told Daily Variety.
Greer Shephard and Mike Robin also serve as exec producers on the project from the Shephard-Robin Co. and Warner Bros. Television.
FX entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly called “Nip/Tuck” an “intriguing subset of the medical genre.” He said the project will debut as part of the network’s plans to ramp up its originals in the wake of “The Shield’s” success.
“It’s great to have started creating some bonds with the audience with ‘The Shield,'” Reilly said. “We want to keep it going on a year-round basis.”
“The Shield” completes its second season on Tuesday. FX’s next original series, half-hour dark comedy “Lucky,” starring John Corbett, premieres the following Tuesday, April 8. A project with Orlando Jones is skedded to preem in June.
On “Nip/Tuck,” McMahon and Walsh play best friends who share a burgeoning plastic surgery practice.
McMahon’s character has no reservations about the services the practice renders and enjoys the perks afforded a successful plastic surgeon in Miami. Walsh, however, has become disillusioned with the superficiality of his job.
Richardson, in her first TV role, plays Walsh’s wife, a housewife and mother of two coming to grips with the reality that the life they have built is not so idyllic. Hensley plays their teenage son.
