Rookie strips reveal strong sweeps ratings

'Dr. Phil,' 'Millionaire,' 'Pyramid' see gains

Four of the five rookie strips in firstrun syndication got a lift from a strong second week of the May sweeps.

King World’s “Dr. Phil” went up by 4% for the week ended May 11 compared with the previous week, averaging a 4.9 rating. Mild weather throughout the country kept ratings down during the first sweep week.

A total of 7% more people tuned in to Buena Vista TV’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” than the previous week, elevating its rating to a 3.2. “Pyramid,” from Sony Pictures TV, climbed by 6%, to a 1.9 rating, and Warner Bros. TV’s “Celebrity Justice” shot up by 8%, finishing with a 1.3 rating.

The fifth first-year strip, “The John Walsh Show,” was flat, with a 1.3 rating.

The genre that did the best in Week 2 of the sweeps was courtshows, five of which showed gains from the previous week.

Paramount TV’s “Judge Judy” was up 4%, to a 5.0 rating. “Judge Joe Brown,” another Paramount show, jumped 9%, to a 3.5 rating.

Twentieth TV’s “Divorce Court” went up 4%, to a 2.9 rating. The Warner Bros. strips “People’s Court” and “Judge Greg Mathis” each rose 5%, putting “People’s” at a 2.2 rating and “Mathis” at a 2.0.
