Duo harmonize during revue of ‘Love’

Song writing pair penned 'Promies, Promises'

“The Look of Love” turned into more than just a trip down memory lane for Burt Bacharach and Hal David. At Sunday night’s Broadway opening, Bacharach revealed that he and David had reunited professionally to record their new single, “Beginning,” with Cilla Black in London.

The songwriting duo’s “Promises, Promises” in 1968 marked their only original Broadway tuner.

“I loved the experience,” David recalled at the Bryant Park Grill fete. “We were offered everything, but Burt wanted to go back into the studio where he could control the sound.”

David has been closely involved with “Look of Love” from its get-go. But Bacharach’s first time seeing the musical revue was opening night.

“Maybe Burt would like to write another Broadway musical now,” David suggested.

No such luck.

“The process of doing ‘Promises Promises” just burned me out,” Bacharach said.
