Richard Merson, noted character actor, died June 1 in Fulton, Texas after a long fight with cancer of the bladder. He was 69.
Merson was born in England, where he started his acting career on the stage in London’s West End. He also served in the Royal Army Service Corp from 1952 to 1956 and received his Ph.D. from the Guild Hall in London.
His television credits include guest appearances on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Cheers,” “Quantum Leap,” and “Night Court.”: Merson also starred in and co-produced the LA stage premiere of Harry Nilsson’s musical, “The Point.”
When he moved from LA to Texas in 1998, Merson was disappointed with the Fulton nightlife and built a community theater called Grace Playhouse in his own backyard.
He is survived by his wife, Tamara, and his sister.
