Phil Ceccola, a rock photographer who began following Bruce Springsteen when he was still playing small clubs, then took thousands of pictures of him as his career exploded, died of brain cancer July 13 in Souderton, Pa.. He was 48.

Ceccola also photographed Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, David Bowie and Elton John in a career that began at age 11, when he snapped pictures at a Temptations concert in Atlantic City.

One of his photos of a bedraggled Springsteen graced the cover of the Boss’ 1998 compilation album, “Tracks,” and its abridged version “18 Tracks.”
