Lynne Weaver, chief operating officer of the After-School All-Stars Foundation (formerly Inner-City Games) founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger, was one of 10 people killed Wednesday July 16 when a car crashed into the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, about a block from her work. She was 47.
Wife to actor-director Rob Weaver and daughter-in-law of actor-environmentalist Dennis Weaver was raised in Orange, Calif., and the San Fernando Valley and was a pro ice skater before turning to public service. Among her numerous philanthropic endeavors are programs for Lakota Sioux Pineridge Reservation, LIFE (Love Is Feeding Everyone free-meal service), Planetary Coral Reef Foundation, Women of L.A. and Women of Pasadena.
Her work at All-Stars entailed running and fundraising for the educational foundation. In Washington, D.C., she escorted Schwarzenegger to congressional hearings.
She also was an instructor of public relations at UCLA Extension and Loyola Marymount U. In addition, she was a producer at InterWeave Entertainment, working with her husband. Andrew Zucker, founder of the Acad of Interactive Arts & Sciences, said she was “a pioneer and true visionary in the field of interactive entertainment, … helping to create such imaginative and award-winning games as Voyeur and Voyeur II,” and he noted she was a founding member of the AIAS.
She also raised funds for a docu her husband made of his father’s Drive to Survive caravan trip with wife Gerry from Santa Monica to Washington, D.C., to publicize anti-pollutant fuels. Their daughter-in-law also escorted Dennis Weaver to a conference with Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham.
Lynne Weaver was herself known for her conservation efforts. Friends and neighbors also praised her for her having a kind heart and nurturing way. Dennis Weaver commented, “Our family’s loss is the world’s loss. Lynne is a universal spirit.”
Besides her husband and in-laws, she is survived by daughter Jennifer, her mother, five sisters and three brothers.
