Hy Anzell

Hy Anzell, an actor best known for his role as Uncle Joey Nichols in Woody Allen’s pic “Annie Hall,” died of natural causes Saturday at St. Agnes hospital in Fresno. He was 79.

Gotham native debuted on Broadway in the 1946 production of the Duke Ellington musical “Beggar’s Holiday.” He went on to appear in other Broadway shows including “Oklahoma” and “Checking Out.”

His Off Broadway credits include “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Kvetch.” Anzell also appeared on television and in over 20 films.

He is survived by two daughters, two sons, a brother and a sister.
