Indian director Anant Balani died Thursday in Mumbai after a massive heart attack. He was 41.
Balani made his 1989 debut with “Gawaahi” (Evidence), starring actor-turned-helmer Shekhar Kapur. His next venture, 1991’s “Pathar ke phool” (Flowers of Stone), launched Bollywood thesps Raveena Tandon and Salman Khan.
Balani later moved to TV, helming “A Mouth Full of Sky,” the first English-language serial for Indian television.
He returned to Bollywood last year to helm “Joggers Park” and “Mumbai Matinee,” which are slated for release this month. His pic “Ek din” (One Day) will be released toward the end of this year.
He was in production on “Chameli,” starring Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose (“Mr. and Mrs. Iyer”).
