Selecting up-and-coming comics is serious business.

After pouring over countless tapes and spending plenty of evenings combing the comedy clubs, Variety came to a consensus on these 10 laff masters.

Some have been working for many years, others are barely getting started. We have comedians who are also film and TV scribes (Nick Swardson, B.J. Novak and Rawson Marshall Thurber), actors (Judah Friedlander, Loni Love and Magdalena), straight standups (Steve Byrne and Demetri Martin) and sketch artists (Jessica St. Clair & Jason Mantzoukas).

We’ve even hopped across the Pond to embrace British sketch comedy group the Hollow Men, now taping a pilot for Comedy Central.

While we’ve seen where they’ve been, the public will now be able to watch where they’re going.

Laugh it up.
