Media group Telefonica de Argentina, a unit of Spain’s Telefonica, tapped Mario Vazquez as prexy, effective June 6.
A director of the company since November 2000, Vazquez replaces Miguel Angel Gutierrez, who was promoted to director of Telefonica Intl.
Telefonica de Argentina is the country’s No. 2 media group including broadcaster Telefe, eight broadcasters in smaller markets, and Radio Continental, one of the highest-rated radio stations.
It also has a stake in TV production company Endemol Argentina, and production outfit Patagonik Film Group, behind recent hits like Juan Jose Campanella’s Oscar-nominated “El hijo de la novia” (Son of the Bride). The other shareholders are Walt Disney’s Buena Vista Intl. and Artear.
Gutierrez will continue as a board member of Telefonica de Argentina.
