Brooke Bailey Johnson has joined Food Network as senior VP and general manager.
Johnson was most recently at A&E, where she had been exec vice president and general manager, ankling in 2000. In her newly created position, Johnson will head up day-to-day operations of the network, reporting to net prexy Judy Girard.
“As Food Network continues to rapidly expand and extend the brand, the need for a day-to-day operations manager was evident,” said Girard. “Brooke has been a major player in the television industry, launching new networks and creating some of cable’s most successful programming concepts.”
Girard’s emphasis will be on new business development and management of channel’s relationship with Scripps Networks brands. Most recently, channel announced a cookbook series with Meredith Books.
At A&E, Johnson was in charge of net’s day-to-day management and its strategic direction. While there, she launched digital channel Biography. In 1999 she was honored as Cable Marketer of the Year by Ad Age.
Prior to taking the reins as GM, Johnson was senior VP of programming for A&E and the History Channel. Latter was conceived by Johnson, and she also crafted its programming strategy. Johnson began her career at A&E in 1989 as senior VP.
Before that, Johnson was program director for WABC, where she launched “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” locally and then took it into national syndication.
