HOLLYWOOD — Travel Channel has named Rick Rodriguez exec VP and general manager of the Discovery-owned network. He succeeds Steve Cheskin, who ankled earlier this month.
Rodriguez, a nine-year Discovery veteran, will oversee all programming, production, development and operations for the sister net and will report to Discovery prexy Billy Campbell.
“Rick has shown incredible leadership during the rebranding of the Discovery Channel brand internationally, as well as in the initial deployment of the Discovery Channel in Latin America and Animal Planet internationally,” Campbell said.
Rodriguez previously was exec veep of content for Discovery Networks Intl., where he oversaw all programming, production, Internet and on-air promotional activity for the company’s suite of international nets.
Latin America experience
He joined Discovery in 1994 as director of programming for its Latin America/Iberia division. He was upped to programming VP for the unit, and later served as its senior VP of international programming and production. He also was G.M. of Discovery Networks Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Before joining Discovery, Rodriguez was president and exec producer of independent production outfit VRS Media in Miami.
