Tom Tapp has been named Executive Editor of V Life, the monthly magazine published by Variety. Michael Speier succeeds Tapp as Managing Editor, Special Reports.

The two promotions were announced by Peter Bart, editor-in-chief of Variety and Daily Variety.

The first three issues of V Life appeared this spring. The magazine, dedicated to the people and passions of entertainment, resumes on a monthly basis with the September issue.

Tapp joined Variety in 1999 as an editor in Special Reports. In 2001, he became Managing Editor of the department, overseeing the production and development of nearly 170 special issues a year.

Before Variety, Tapp was an editor at E! Online, helping launch the E! Entertainment TV-funded site in 1996.

He is a graduate of California State University Northridge.

Speier joined Variety as a Specials editor in 1997 after serving as West Coast editor at Millimeter magazine and, before that, one year at Universal-based Bregman Prods.

He’s been overseeing Daily Variety-Gotham since 1998, engineering coverage of the New York-based entertainment scene.

Throughout his tenure, Speier has held several additional posts, including editor of eV, Variety‘s magazine circling entertainment and the Internet, and has written television criticism for the paper since 1999.

Speier graduated from Syracuse University in 1991 and received his Master of Arts in 1995 from the University of North Texas.
