Pinkslips fluttered around the Culver City lot of Sony Pictures Entertainment on Friday.
Rumors circulated of several dozen layoffs, but a studio spokeswoman denied the scuttlebutt and said “about a dozen” positions had been eliminated. She said the cuts were limited to the studio operations division, which covers post-production, physical production and facilities operations.
Four layoffs hit the sound department and related operations, sources said.
Employees were given one to two weeks of severance pay for each year of service rendered, an insider said. Most of the layoffs took effect immediately, with at least one Sony veteran getting just an hour to clear out personal belongings.
