Silverman tapped as Family Channel G.M.

Eight-year Mouse vet will handle net's business strategy

ABC Family has tapped Mark Silverman senior VP and GM of ABC Family Channel.

In this newly created role, Silverman will oversee the channel’s day-to-day operations, reporting to net’s prexy, Angela Shapiro. Silverman will also handle the net’s business strategy, focusing on ad sales, business affairs and finance.

An eight-year veteran of the Walt Disney Co., Silverman was most recently VP of planning and development at ABC Inc. There, he directed planning for Alphabet’s network, O&Os, cable group and radio divisions, along with ESPN and Buena Vista Television. Silverman launched new channels SoapNet and ESPN Zone, where he was also served as GM.

Silverman was also formerly VP of finance and planning at Walt Disney Studios, where he managed all business development and strategy, including planning and special projects.

He was involved in the acquisitions of Miramax Films and helped launch several international Disney Channels. Before joining the studio division, he worked with the theatrical marketing department.

Before joining Disney, Silverman worked in business development at NBC and Arthur Young & Co.
