NATPE carries on TartiKoff Legacy

Award to honor passion, leadership in TV field

In honor of one of television’s most brilliant pioneers, NATPE unveiled Wednesday the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards to recognize excellence in the creation of programming.

The announcement was made by NATPE. President-CEO Rick Feldman.

The Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards will be formally presented at a reception on Jan. 19 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas during NATPE’s annual confab.

The awards will celebrate a select group of TV professionals who exhibit extraordinary passion, leadership, independence and vision in the process of creating TV programming.

Held in association with Variety, Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News, the first Legacy Award winners will be selected by NATPE’s Executive Committee from nominations by NATPE members and by the editorial staff of the three publications.

Nominations must be submitted to NATPE at www.natpe.org no later than Oct. 30.

“When I got this job, I reflected back to my last conversation with Brandon, which was in New Orleans at NATPE. I wish he were here so I could pick his brain about all the changes in our business. He loved the business and had a great soft spot for NATPE,” Feldman recalled.

Regarding the announcement, Lilly Tartikoff said, “Brandon loved the TV business, particularly people and programs that embodied the high level of creativity he constantly strived for throughout his career. Brandon would’ve been so honored to have his name and contributions to the industry recognized by NATPE through these special awards.”

Tartikoff is widely heralded for his programming and managing talents, having spearheaded NBC’s historic rise to the top as the Peacock’s president of entertainment. Throughout his career, he was responsible for programming some of TV’s most successful programs, including “Hill Street Blues,” “Cheers,” “L.A. Law,” “The Cosby Show” and “Seinfeld.”
