NATPE aims to ease way for TV buyers

Membership includes registration, transportation, other services

NATPE is creating a VIP Buyer membership category aimed at facilitating the day-to-day activities of TV program acquisition execs in both the United States and throughout the world.

Rick Feldman, president and CEO of the National Assn. of TV Programming Executives, unveiled the initiative Tuesday.

The all-inclusive fee of $200 for the membership will include registration to NATPE’s 2004 conference Jan. 18-20 at the Sands Expo Center and Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, complimentary transportation via limo to and from Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport for international buyers, an annual professional membership to NATPE and an array of business services to assist buyers during the conference and throughout the year.

“We’ve held conversations with more than 500 people worldwide and conducted extensive research to learn what our members and past conference attendees look for from NATPE. Increasing conference attendance and membership among the domestic and international buying community were the top line items for an overwhelming majority of the people we spoke with,” Feldman said.

New features

For its upcoming confab, NATPE’s Show Guide publications will include a number of new features to assist members and attendees, including an expanded directory with a country-by-country participants list sorted by acquisition execs and all conference attendees; NATPE exhibitor listings of personnel contact information, corporate descriptions and product listings; general editorial on the conference, including an event agenda and speaker bios; and a conference floor plan.

NATPE registrants also will have access to this information via the association’s Web site, effective Dec. 1.

The professional membership is designed for program buyers, producers and distributors; broadcast, cable and satellite network executives; advertising and media buyers; marketers and researchers; agents; and new media developers, among others.

‘Attractive cost’

The new membership category, Feldman added, will assist acquisition execs “in seeking product for their schedules and entice them to attend NATPE ’04 at a very attractive cost. This way, they will be able to meet with distributors in Las Vegas to go about their business of acquiring product.”

Services available through this membership include an online subscription to the NATPE Guide to North American Media; an online entry in the “NATPE Directory” database of industry contacts; invitations and discounts to attend NATPE networking and seminar events throughout the year; and numerous member benefits partners offering discounted services ranging from catering to marketing to technology.
