Motorola moves in high-speed

Plan ties isolated technologies together

Motorola unveiled a strategy to use high-speed cable connections into the home to provide a wide range of entertainment and other services that will run through the company’s set-top boxes and other networking devices.

The idea is to tie together technologies that previously had been isolated from each other, including computers, security systems, stereos and the TV. Motorola showed off the industry’s first HD-capable set-top box, with the ability to record video like a Tivo, adapters for Internet phone service and a built-in camera. Other Motorola gadgets include a device that uses wireless connections to get music downloaded by computer from the Internet to play on a stereo.
