Kidvidder loses Barbie contract

World Brief

Kidvidder Entertainment Rights, the company behind “Postman Pat” and “Basil Brush,” has lost the contract to sell Barbie merchandise in the U.K.

U.S. toymaker Mattel is not renewing its contract, reportedly worth £1 million ($1.64 million) a year, with Entertainment Rights division Link Licensing, which has handled Barbie merchandising in the U.K. for 12 years.

Mattel will take merchandising inhouse from January as part of an internal restructure.

Entertainment Rights said losing the contract “will not have a material impact on the future profitability of the group.” Company is thought to make a profit of only $327,000 annually from the deal.

It will continue to rep the Barbie franchise through its long-term TV and homevideo licensing agreement with Mattel.
