On the heels of its successful feature bow, “S.W.A.T.” could be returning to its small screen roots.
Sony Pictures Television and producers Neil Moritz and Marty Adelstein of Original Film have met with the Big Four about bringing the classic cop franchise to television as a fall 2004 actioner. Scribes Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, the team behind the 1997 Nicolas Cage actioner “Face/Off,” are attached to write the pilot, which would borrow more from the feature film than the ’70s series.
Project has generated serious interest from at least two of the nets and is expected to fetch a tidy sum, though just what level of commitment will be offered is unclear. A deal could close within the next few days, industry insiders said.
Pic is doing boffo biz at the B.O., raking in over $70 million in its first two weeks. Original skein, which starred Robert Urich, ran for less than two seasons starting in 1975 but built up a cult following in syndication.
An SPT rep had no comment, while execs at Original couldn’t be reached late Thursday.
