A seven-member committee of top execs will now oversee the operations of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
In addition to Sony Corp. chairman Howard Stringer, SPE chairman-CEO John Calley and SPE vice chairmen Jeff Blake, Yair Landau and Amy Pascal, the committee includes Revolution Studios’ Joe Roth and Sony Corp. executive VP-chief financial officer Rob Wiesenthal.
The committee, which Stringer announced April 17 in a company-wide memo, is designed to review “how we operate each of our core businesses,” Stringer said.
He highlighted the committee’s inclusion of Roth as reflecting “the importance of one of SPE’s most successful partnerships.”
Items on the committee’s weekly agenda include comprehensive SPE business reviews, evaluation of significant financial commitments and long-term strategy development.
While Stringer said he expected the committee to provide “ideas, energy and seriousness of purpose,” he also sought to dispel anyone from taking the group’s creation too seriously.
“We are not exactly ‘The Seven Samurai,’ ” he said, “but, then again, you will remember what happened to them.”
