Inside Move: ‘Brother’s’ big twist

Synergy with sister net helps house guest see VMAs

Another day, another twist on “Big Brother 4” — but this one includes a dose of good old-fashioned corporate synergy.

Wednesday night’s edition of the CBS reality hit ended with house guest Jun being secretly spirited away from the skein’s Studio City compound after winning a key competition. Her prize: a whirlwind trip to this evening’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York.

It’s no coincidence: CBS and MTV are both part of Viacom, and the stunt promises to be offer plenty of cross-promotion. MTV got a free plug on a show that reaches millions of young viewers, while MTV News tonight is expected to interview the “BB4” winner on its VMA preshow.

Then on Friday’s “BB4,” producers will likely devote several minutes to Jun’s jaunt — thus promoting this weekend’s countless rebroadcasts of the VMAs.

CBS reality czar Ghen Maynard said “BB4” exec producers Allison Grodner, Arnold Shapiro and Jon Kroll had long wanted to incorporate a plot twist “in which someone vanishes from the house.”

“Then we tried to think of some place they’d go that would have a payoff that creates some envy among the other house guests,” Maynard said. “The VMAs were the perfect opportunity.”
