Home & Garden Television has tapped Mary Ellen Iwata VP of development, a newly created position designed to strengthen the cabler’s ties to the production community and to facilitate new programming ideas. She will report to HGTV senior VP of programming Michael Dingley.
Iwata will oversee all programming development and work with production companies to solicit and develop new program proposals and show ideas.
“Being able to bring Mary Ellen to HGTV to lead our program development is especially meaningful because of her strong track record and the relationships she has with production companies both here and abroad,” HGTV prexy Burton Jablin said.
Previously, Iwata served as vice president of development and special projects at The Learning Channel, where she exec produced the Emmy-winning special “Killer Virus” and “World Birthday.” She’s also worked as an independent producer for PBS, Fox and Discovery Channel.
