HOLLYWOOD — The annual Race to Erase MS fundraiser/fashion show raised $2.3 million at the Century Plaza’s ballroom Friday.
The 10th annual dinner kicked off with a blazing perf by six-year-old Jamia Simone Nash, belting out “Dancing in the Streets,” then segued into a high-energy fashion show from co-chair Tommy Hilfiger.
Remarks came from co-chair Nancy Davis and Teri Garr, both of whom have MS.
While Davis spoke about advances in research, Garr went for the laughs. “I might have MS, but what the hell difference does it make? I’m an actress over 50 in Hollywood,” she said.
During the live auction, Rod Stewart bid $7,000 for a yellow Labrador puppy who may have a future doing performance art: Brought to Stewart’s table, she took the opportunity to piss on tablemate Michael Chiklis.
Strong perfs also came from the Four Tops, Eric Benet and especially Thelma Houston.
The event was hosted by Kelsey Grammer and Jane Leeves; Tom Arnold, Tony Danza and Montel Williams emceed the live auction; and guests included Barbara Davis, Jim Gianopulos, Aaron Spelling, Steve Tisch, Penny Marshall, Melanie Griffith, Jennifer Tilly, Lisa Kudrow and Anjelica Huston.
