Dektor heads DGA’s ad noms

Trio of two-time nominees also named

The Directors Guild of America has tapped 13-time nominee Leslie Dektor as one of the five nominees for outstanding directorial achievement in commercials.

Also named were a trio of two-time nominees — Dante Ariola, Craig Gillespie and Baker Smith — and first-time nominee Noam Murro.

Joe Pytka set the record for most nominations last year with his 14th. Dektor, who won the award in 1992 and 2000, was cited for “Crazy Love” for American Express, “Rent or Food” for America’s Second Harvest and “Lady Liberty” for Verizon.

Ariola, who was also tapped in 2000, was cited for “Signs” for Sony Playstation 2, “Cheese” for Buddy Lee and “Butcher” for Bank of America.

Gillespie, who was nominated last year, was cited for “Treadmill,” “Snake Bite” for Holiday Inn Express, “Cops” for Chevy, “Coffee Machine” for SBC and “Suki” for EDS.

Smith, who was also nominated last year, was cited for “Black Bands” and “Visigoths” for Canal Plus, “Lightning” and “Wind” for Fox Sports and “Clown” for Mini BMW Cooper.

Murro was cited for “Sheet Metal” for Saturn, “Do it eBay” for eBay and “Pick” and “Pitch” for E Trade.
