Biel sharpens up for ‘Blade’

Thesp joins Snipes, Reynolds in third installment

Jessica Biel has signed on to star as a female vampire hunter in the David Goyer-directed New Line drama “Blade: Trinity” starring Wesley Snipes.

Biel plays the daughter of the character Abraham Whistler, to be played by Kris Kristofferson, who inherits the vampire slaying duties that once belonged to Blade.

She teams closely with the character Hannibal, being played by Ryan Reynolds asa vampire hunter. Pairing of Biel and Reynolds could lead to a spinoff film and a new franchise for the company.

“Blade 3” is being produced by Lynn Harris, Peter Frankfurt, Wesley Snipes and Marvel’s Avi Arad based on a script by Goyer. Execs Toby Emmerich and Cale Boyter are steering the pic.

In the third installment of the franchise, based on a Marvel Comic, Blade must reverse an apocalyptic event that threatens to bring Earth under the vampires’ control.

Biel, repped by CAA, will next be seen in New Line’s upcoming remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” produced by Michael Bay for helmer Marcus Nispel, which will hit theaters Oct. 17.
