Robin Leach will dust off his champagne wishes and caviar dreams for ABC.
Alphabet web has picked up the Leach-hosted special “Lap of Luxury,” an hourlong look into the lives of wealthy and famous individuals.
“Lap of Luxury,” to be exec produced by former King World programming/production prexy Andy Friendly, will air sometime this season.
Leach most recently appeared on ABC as a contestant on the net’s February sweeps series “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!” But he’s still best known for his years as host of the syndie entry “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.”
“No one can get the access that Robin can,” said ABC alternative series/specials senior VP Andrea Wong. “He’s not only trusted by his elite subjects, but the audience trusts him to show the elements of lifestyle they’d never get to see anywhere else.”
“Lap of Luxury” will include segments on Virgin founder Richard Branson, who shows off his private Caribbean island; rap mogul Master P and his Gucci helicopter and Louis Vuitton Ferrari; and the high-roller suites inside Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace Villas.
“We’re setting our sites higher than ever before,” Friendly said. “This show will not be your typical look at American wealth.”
Friendly first hooked up with Leach when the host worked on the early version of “Entertainment Tonight,” which Friendly helped launch.
Program, which could potentially evolve into a regular series, comes from Andy Friendly Prods. Krysia Plonka, who worked on ABC’s “In Style” specials, will co-exec produce.
