Alley mothers CBS’ ‘Family’

Woman turned foster kids into criminal gang

Kirstie Alley will play real-life baddie Frances Burt in “A Matter of Family,” a two-hour telepic greenlit by CBS.

Pic, from Alberta Filmworks and Sony Pictures Television in association with Viviano Entertainment, details the story of the Burt crime family, headed by matriarch Frances. Seemingly a pillar of the community, Burt used her foster children as a sort of criminal gang.

Donald Martin wrote the script for the project, with Graeme Clifford (“The Last Don”) set to direct. Ricka Kanter Fisher, Susan Levitan and Bettina Sofia Viviano are exec producers.

Alley appeared in last season’s Eye telepic “Profoundly Normal,” which Clifford directed. Both are repped by WMA.

Project begins shooting next month in Calgary. Eye plans to air the project sometime during the 2003-04 TV season.
