NEW YORK — Continuing the campaign to improve affiliate relations, ABC News has upped Joan Preztunik to serve as day-to-day liaison between TV stations and the net news division.
Preztunik is currently general manager of news services for ABC. In her expanded role, she will carry the title of exec director of newsgathering, a newly created post. ABC affils were upset with the net’s coverage of the recent Columbia Space Shuttle disaster, as well as with breaking coverage of the onset of the Iraq war.
As exec director, Preztunik will work closely with ABC affiliates and owned-and-operated stations. On the net side, she will work with the ABC News desk, ABC News Radio and ABCNews.com.
She also will continue to oversee the daily operations of ABC’s affiliate news service, NewsOne, and Absat, the net’s satellite newsgathering arm, both services she has helped to build.
Preztunik joined the net in 1982.
