Finance vet Joseph Miller and former film exec Drew Larner have been named managing directors of Europlay Capital Advisors, an L.A. merchant bank and financial adviser.
Pair recently joined the growing boutique firm, and a formal announcement of their hirings is expected shortly.
Miller was a senior VP at L.A. investment firm Houlihan, Lokey, Howard & Zukin from 1998 until earlier this year. Before that, he was veep of corporate development at Canadian film and TV company Alliance Communications.
Larner has been exec VP at Spyglass Entertainment since 1999. Previously, he spent five years at Morgan Creek Prods. following a stint in business affairs at 20th Century Fox.
The appointment of Miller and Larner should bolster the entertainment-finance expertise at Europlay, which has a special emphasis on entertainment tech.
“Being focused on technology and interactive, this company is right in the sweet spot of where entertainment is headed,” Miller said Monday.
Larner’s relationship with the firm grew out of its work with Spyglass on a proposed German public offering and an intended merger with the Intermedia film group. Both initiatives eventually were abandoned for different reasons.
“This is an interesting opportunity for me,” Larner said. “Having been on the operations side, combined with Joe and others’ financial expertise, will really set us apart.”
