L.A. NARAS lauds three

Latifah, Clark, Howard on hand to present nods

The Los Angeles chapter of the NARAS will present its Governors Awards to recording industry executive Clarence Avant, Randy Newman and Lionel Richie at the 2003 membership awards luncheon June 19.

Queen Latifah, James Newton Howard and Dick Clark will present the awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The L.A. chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences presents the awards annually to members recognized as an invaluable asset to the music community. Recipients are selected for excellence in their work and for their willingness to support and participate in programs benefiting the music community.

Many of the chapter’s ongoing programs raise funds to support the L.A. chapter scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to qualified local music students.
