Venevision sets diskery

TV distribbery diversifies into film, legit, music

MIAMI — Venevision Intl., part of the Cisneros Group, has pressed its first records under its new label, Vene Music, which specializes in Spanish-lingo music of various genres for the U.S. market.

Venevision Intl. is a Miami-based TV distrib that has extended beyond its core business into small-screen production. Its output automatically airs on sister broadcaster Venevision in Venezuela, and the production company is a supplier to U.S. net Univision.

More recently, it has been expanding into activities such as theatrical distribution of Spanish-lingo films in the U.S., Spanish-lingo legit productions in Miami and, now, music.

“To participate in the music market is a natural extension of our presence in the United States,” said Venevision Intl. prexy Luis Villanueva.

Vene Music’s first record is “Duos Bachateros,” which is being distributed under an accord with EMI Latin.

The label also is releasing “Duos Merengueros,” and soon will launch greatest hits compilations from crooner Armando Manzanero and Mexican group El Coyote.
