Chris Rock will host the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
Kudocast will air Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. from Gotham’s Radio City Music Hall, marking the event’s fifth straight year as a live broadcast from New York. Music net’s annual awards show reps Rock’s third outing as emcee, having previously hosted the event in 1997 and 1999.
“He’s the best standup comic right now, so it should be a hairy show,” MTV prexy Van Toffler told Daily Variety. “Chris has been phenomenal in the past, and I can’t wait to see how he’s going to get everyone in the industry to hate us the next day.”
Details are still being hammered out for the event’s 20th anni, which comes full circle to Radio City, where it first took place in 1984, but Toffler revealed the celebration will include nods to some of the VMAs’ more memorable unscripted moments, including the Michael Jackson-Lisa Marie kiss.
Salli Frattini and Dave Sirulnick will exec produce the show. Alex Coletti will produce. Trio has spearheaded the VMAs since 1999.
