World Brief

Mumbai’s first independent FM channel, WIN 94.6, went off the air Tuesday in a licensing fee dispute.

While all the other channels on Mumbai’s airwaves are backed by media houses, WIN 94.6 was set up by independent players, Gautam Radia, Pharmaceutical entrepreneur Ajay Piramal and merchant banker Hemendra Kothari.

Last year when FM was launched the license fee in Mumbai was pegged at $2.17 million. Private FM players have been meeting with Government officials to move to a revenue sharing basis.
