COPENHAGEN — Scandinavian distributor Scanbox Entertainment, which has generated some $6 million in profits before tax since its restructuring 16 months ago, has signed former investment banker and financial advisor Mads Peter Ole Olsen as executive producer, the company announced Monday.
“We wish to increase our current share in Scandinavia by becoming more involved in the distribution of local films. Olsen will be responsible for financial co-production, including advisory matters on legal and risk structures,” explained managing director and head of acquisitions Jorgen Kristiansen.
With offices in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, but no attachment to a major, Scanbox Entertainment releases about 100 films annually, between 22 to 25 theatrically, including such upcoming titles as “The Human Stain,” “The Great Raid” and “World of Tomorrow.”
According to Kristiansen, the company controls approximately 10% of the combined Scandinavian theatrical and video-DVD market. “However, the market shares of domestic product are soaring all over Scandinavia. We have previously co-produced several features, and we are ready to actively participate again, instead of just issuing distribution guarantees,” he added.
Olsen had previously been financial advisor to the London-based production house Winchester. In 1999 he joined Banque Intertnationale of Luxembourg in London to arrange financing for independent European and U.S. films. In 2000, he opened the bank’s Scandinavian department for film financing in Denmark.
