RIO DE JANEIRO — Telenovela director Jayme Monjardim is making his first feature, “Olga,” a biopic about political activist Olga Benario Prestes.

Rita Buzzar’s Nexus is lead producer on the $2.8 million feature with co-production partner Globo Filmes, the theatrical production arm of media group Organizacoes Globo.

Pic is based on Fernando Morais’ 1985 bestseller and stars Camila Morgado.

“Olga” recounts the life of the German-Jewish communist who met Brazilian communist-revolutionary leader Luiz Carlos Prestes while in exile in Moscow. The pair later married, and Prestes led Brazil’s 1935 communist uprising.

Monjardim has directed some of TV Globo’s most successful telenovelas including “The Clon,” “Terra Nostra” and the recently launched “Casa das sete mulheres” (House of Seven Women).
