NEW YORK — Art pic aficionado Richard Lorber is back in the distribution game with a newly formed DVD label, Koch Lorber Films.
The Gotham-based specialty film distrib will launch in the second quarter with an anticipated release slate of 20-24 titles per year priced at around $25 each.
Company, a joint venture between Lorber and independent music company Koch Entertainment, is looking to buy foreign collectibles, performance features, docu features and major classics that will be getting their first DVD releases.
Company says it will also chase sought-after newer titles that haven’t yet been released on DVD, including international festival winners.
Lorber, who plans to make the festival and market rounds in coming months, said he’ll take an opportunistic approach to buying rights, picking up TV and theatrical and selling them on if necessary to secure a title.
“We would be willing to do pre-buying and support specialty theatrical releases if appropriate,” Lorber told Daily Variety.
Koch Entertainment, an indie music distrib with a sales team of 80, will handle distribution chores for the new video line in the U.S. and controls the majority of the equity in the new venture. Some DVD releases will feature accompanying CD audio products bundled with the videos.
President of the new label, Lorber was founder of international distrib Fox Lorber, now Wellspring. Koch Entertainment CEO Michael Koch will be chairman of the new entity.
