Lions Gate Films has picked up North American rights to the Australian romantic comedy “Danny Deckchair.” Lions Gate plans a March release.
Acquired from Crusader Entertainment, the film was written and directed by Jeff Balsmeyer and stars Rhys Ifans (“Notting Hill”) and Miranda Otto (“Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”).
Pic is the story of a truck driver who persuades his friends to tie helium balloons to his garden chair. As he’s lifted into the skies, a thunderstorm spirits him to a strange and distant town.
“Danny Deckchair” was produced by Andrew Mason (“The Matrix Reloaded”) and co-produced by Lizzie Bryant.
The film is a Crusader and Macquarie Film Corp. presentation in association with Cobalt Media. Executive producers include Howard Baldwin, Karen Baldwin, William Immerman and Carol Hughes.
