HOLLYWOOD — DreamWorks is hammering out a seven-figure deal for the rights to upcoming children’s book “The Akhnaten Adventure,” by British thriller writer Philip Kerr.
Steven Spielberg, who has been instrumental in the acquisition, may direct or produce the project.
Deal, which is unusually lucrative for a children’s title, is being brokered by the Creative Artists Agency on behalf of London agency A.P. Watt.
“The Akhnaten Adventure,” the first book in the “Children of the Lamp” series, is Kerr’s first stab at writing for kids. Book has not yet gone out to U.S. or U.K. publishers.
Story follows a pair of well-heeled Manhattan twins whose new wisdom teeth hold secret powers understood only by their eccentric Uncle Nimrod, who explains that the adolescents are actually genies. Their powers are put to the test in Egypt, where they must fight against an evil genie.
