PRAGUE — “The Prince and the Freshman” started shooting in Prague on Saturday after wrapping its Toronto leg.
Story of a college pre-med student who falls in love with the Prince of Denmark will spend five weeks on location, with the Czech Republic standing in for Denmark.
Martha Coolidge directs with Julia Stiles and Luke Mably taking the title roles and James Fox as the king. Mark Amin produces the Paramount film. Stillking Films handles local production services.
The royal romantic comedy overlaps with helmer Andy Cadiff’s untitled Mandy Moore starrer about the daughter of the U.S. president who runs off with the undercover secret service agent hired to look after her. That film was scheduled to wrap Monday after six weeks in Prague, before moving to Venice. Production’s original title, “First Daughter,” is being changed due to a similarly plotted film of that name directed by Forest Whitaker.
Cast also includes Matthew Goode as the love interest, Mark Harmon as the president and Annabella Sciorra and Jeremy Piven as Moore’s bickering handlers.
Picture is produced by Alcon Entertainment’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove and Trademark Films’ David Parfitt. Etic Films’ Petr Moravec is handling local production services as well as coming on board as co-producer.
