Euro pics get $4 mil in German funding

Fiennes' film awarded $342k for distribution

COLOGNE — German film funding bodies FFA and MDM have lined up in excess of $4 million in support of production and distribution for local and European productions.

From federal body FFA, Eric Till’s “Luther,” starring Joseph Fiennes, Sir Peter Ustinov and Alfred Molina, was awarded the unusually high figure of €300,000 ($342,000) for support of theatrical distribution. FFA also slated around $200,000 each for Jurgen-Prochnow-starrer “The Poet,” “Adam & Eva” featuring Marie Baumer (“Angst”), and punk-wave drama “Verschwende Deine Jugend” (“Waste your youth”).

For upcoming productions, Saxony state body MDM awarded $450,000 each for children pic “Spoon”, for Ufa Film’s TV movie “Die schoensten Jahre”, and for Flying Moon-produced drama “Gestranded” (“Stranded”). Another kids project, pirates animation series “Ready to board”, bagged $280,000.

A line of distribution support has also been announced by Filmstiftung NRW, which awarded $110,00 for local and international pics. These include Marco Bechi’s Argentine drama “Junta” as well as Japanese pics “GO” and “Nineteen.”
