Niles comic is a re-telling of Frankenstein legend

A month after discovering it at Comic-Con, Dimension Films has picked up rights to comicbook “Wake the Dead.”

Steve Niles’ supernatural series is a retelling of the Frankenstein legend in the style of cult favorites “The Crow” and “Darkman.” Five-part series is published by IDW Publishing; org president Ted Adams will exec produce the project along with Niles.

Pair are also behind Niles’ “30 Days of Night” comic, currently set up with Sony for Sam Raimi to produce with Dark Horse Entertainment.

Michael Zoumas, senior VP of development, brought in the project with director of development Narges Takesh after finding it at Comic-Con in San Diego. Dimension co-prexys Andrew Rona and Brad Weston will oversee “Wake the Dead.”

Deal also gives Dimension first crack at Niles’ upcoming comicbook, “Remains,” due out next spring from IDW.

IDW’s other titles include CIA/vampire series “CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations” and a series of tie-in books with CBS, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
