LONDON — Judge Justice Lindsay has set a July 16 date for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’sdamages hearing.
At the April liability hearing, Lindsay ruled that Hello! magazine’s publication of six unauthorized snaps from the couple’s wedding had breached their rights of confidence. Before the wedding, the Douglas’s inked a $1.6 million deal with rival mag OK! for exclusive coverage and are demanding $4 million in damages.
The six-week high court liability hearing racked up $4.8 million in legal fees for the Douglas’s. Zeta-Jones spoke of being “devastated, shocked and appalled” by the paparazzo gatecrashing of her wedding at the Plaza hotel in New York.
In court, Hello! fixer, the Marquesa de Varela countered, “It was childish to think that in the Plaza Hotel you would get 100% exclusive photos. If I wanted a private wedding I would not have done it in the Plaza Hotel. It’s a hotel. It’s not a private place.”
The damages hearing is set to last up to seven days.
