MADRID — Pedro and Agustin Almodovar’s production house El Deseo has closed a four-pic deal with Filmanova, a burgeoning prodco in Galicia, northern Spain.
Filmanova will take an associate producer credit on Pedro Almodovar’s upcoming “La mala educacion” (Bad Education), which will shoot partly in Galicia beginning in May, and a co-prod credit on Felix Sabroso and Dunia Ayaso’s struggling artists comedy “Descongelete” (Chill Out), which is currently shooting.
El Deseo and Filmanova have also committed to develop Anton Reixa’s ironic drama “Hotel Tivoli” and Luiso Berdejo’s “Liquido.” Reixa’s first feature, the lush Civil War romancer “El lapiz del carpintero” (The Carpenter’s Pencil), bows next week in Spain. Berdejo is a prized short-film helmer.
The deal is further confirmation of El Deseo’s desire to spread its talent and financing net.
Beyond providing production services and its own finance, Filmanova may be able to tap coin from Galician regional and TV entities and link El Deseo to new directorial talent.
El Deseo already has a larger, three-year development and production deal with facilities and production company MediaPro, which was unveiled last September. MediaPro may also board “Hotel Tivoli” and “Liquido.”
