BERLIN — Germany’s independent producers body Film 20 added the Assn. of Austrian Film Producers (AAFP) to its ranks on Tuesday, boosting its aims to support indie filmmakers in German-lingo territories.
The news, announced in Vienna, immensely strengthens the benefits of producers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, according to Film 20.
“A substantial part of our business is done in Germany,” said Danny Krausz, head of Vienna-based Dor Film and an AAFP board member. “We face the same issues as German producers. There are many similar problems in regards to production and distribution. Our position would not exist without cooperation; we would not function if we were isolated.”
Film 20 topper Georgia Tornow added that with the membership of Swiss-based media group Highlight Communications and now the AAFP, Film 20 had successfully broadened its reach.
Film 20 and AAFP’s common goals include simplifying cross-border co-productions; making film subsidies more efficient; introducing tax models to increase production; making the region more attractive to international players; using and increasing local production capacity; and working with new European Union nations to develop distribution.
